POSITION PURPOSE
As a Data Engineer Specialist I, you will assist in developing and maintaining data pipelines and infrastructure under the guidance of senior data engineers. This entry-level role focuses on supporting data processing, ensuring data quality, and learning data engineering best practices. The ideal candidate is eager to grow, has foundational technical skills, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assist in designing, building, and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines to process data from various sources.
•Support data integration by cleaning, transforming, and validating data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
•Help identify and troubleshoot basic performance issues in data pipelines and queries, escalating complex problems to senior team members.
•Contribute to the development and maintenance of data models and schemas to meet business and analytical needs.
•Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to understand data requirements and assist in delivering solutions.
•Participate in monitoring and maintaining data pipelines, ensuring system reliability with guidance from senior engineers.
•Document data processes, pipelines, and workflows to maintain clear and accurate records.
•Engage in team code reviews and adhere to data engineering best practices under supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
•Technical Skills:
o Basic proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
o Fundamental knowledge of SQL for querying and basic data manipulation.
o Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
o Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure (e.g., Fabric, Synapse, Data Lake) is a plus.
o Basic understanding of data orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow) is a plus.
o Awareness of data warehousing or data lake concepts is a plus.
•Soft Skills:
o Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
o Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members.
o Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new tools and processes.
o Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to take direction and feedback.
•Experience: 0-2 years of experience in data engineering, including internships, academic projects, or relevant coursework.
