About the Role:
Global Systems Engineering, LLC an Intreped Partners company is a HUBZone small business that supports the federal government with a variety of high-end technical and engineering services We are seeking a Cyber Security / Network Engineer to support the Operational Technology (OT) Inventory Project for Army National Guard installations. You will partner with a Facility Control Systems Manager/Operator to perform detailed physical and logical inventories of facility-based control systems including HVAC, alarm systems, utility monitoring, and other low-voltage automation systems.
Location:Travel-based across Northeast (Road Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine) to installations and buildings operated by the Army National Guard (ARNG).
Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory & Documentation
- Conduct physical and logical inventories of OT/ICS devices (Levels 15) in accordance with USACE ICS Inventory Methodology and DoD UFC 4-010-06.
- Identify, categorize, and document OT hardware, software, firmware, and network connections.
- Produce detailed network topology and dataflow diagrams showing device roles, IP addressing, ports, and protocols.
- Network & Cybersecurity Assessment
- Perform authorized logical scans of OT networks using government-approved tools (e.g., Wireshark, Nozomi) to identify devices, connectivity, and potential vulnerabilities.
- Analyze network architecture to determine compliance with RMF requirements and DoD cybersecurity standards.
- Note interconnections between OT networks, DoD IT networks, and external networks.
- RMF Support
- Provide input to RMF compliance assessments and recommendations.
- Develop cost estimates and mitigation strategies for remediating vulnerabilities and ensuring RMF compliance.
- Collaboration & Reporting
- Work alongside Facility Control Systems Managers/Operators as part of a two-person site inventory team.
- Participate in on-site and virtual meetings, including kick-off briefings, daily hot wash sessions, and executive-level presentations.
- Maintain accurate, secure records of all findings in compliance with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling requirements.
Required Qualifications:
A bachelors degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, engineering, or a closely related discipline is preferred but not required. In lieu of a degree, candidates may qualify through:
- Experience:
- Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible work in one or more of the following areas:
- Operational Technology (OT) or Industrial Control Systems (ICS) cybersecurity.
- Network engineering and architecture for mixed IT/OT environments.
- Cybersecurity assessment, RMF compliance analysis, or vulnerability remediation for DoD or critical infrastructure environments.
- Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible work in one or more of the following areas:
- Certifications (at least one required):
- Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) Advanced level
- CISSP, CISM, or equivalent advanced cybersecurity certification.
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent foundational cybersecurity certification.
- CCNA, CCNP, or similar network engineering certification.
- Manufacturer-specific ICS/OT certifications (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys).
- Demonstrated Competencies:
- Proven ability to conduct logical inventories of OT environments using approved discovery tools.
- Ability to produce network and data flow diagrams meeting DoD UFC and USACE standards.
- Documented experience identifying and categorizing OT devices and software in accordance with DoD 8140.03M Cyber Defense Infrastructure Support Specialist (Work Role ID 521) Intermediate level or higher.
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-82, UFC 4-010-06, and relevant STIGs for OT/ICS systems.
Required Qualifications:
- Meet DoD 8140.03M Cyber Defense Infrastructure Support Specialist (Work Role ID 521) Intermediate level or higher.
Education:
- Bachelors degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, engineering, or related discipline; OR
- Equivalent Experience: Minimum of 7 years in OT/ICS cybersecurity, network engineering, or related technical fields (see preferred experience below).
Certifications (one or more required):
- Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) Advanced level preferred
- CISSP, CISM, or other advanced cybersecurity certification
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent foundational certification
- CCNA/CCNP or similar network engineering certification
- Manufacturer-specific ICS/OT controls certifications (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys).
Technical Competencies:
- Proven ability to produce network and dataflow diagrams to USACE/DoD standards.
- Experience performing logical scans, packet captures, and network discovery in OT environments.
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-82, UFC 4-010-06, and relevant STIGs.
- Ability to handle and secure CUI in accordance with DoD guidance.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with facility-related control systems such as HVAC, lighting control, fire/life safety, and electronic security systems.
- Hands-on work in mixed IT/OT environments supporting critical infrastructure.
- Prior experience with DoD RMF processes and preparing ATO-related documentation.
Additional Requirements:
- U.S. citizenship required due to federal contract requirements, and ability to meet background check requirements.
- Completion of DoD Cyber Awareness Training and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) prior to site work.
- Familiarity with low-voltage systems, industrial controls, and energy management platforms
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively across multiple states for site inventories.
- Must be physically able to access mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other facility spaces in compliance with safety requirements.
