The Continuous Improvement (CI) Engineer is responsible for managing continuous improvement plans, capital projects, process control, and all aspects of 6S initiatives within the operation. This includes understanding the current process state, identifying improvement opportunities to the management team, then leading cross-functional team members to drive continuous improvement, housekeeping, 6S, as well as safety compliance. The position will be required to work with all levels of management to generate improvement plans, capital projects, and sustained 6S housekeeping excellence.
Essential Functions:
•Work with Facilities Manager, maintenance team and contractors to coordinate installation and upgrade projects relating to CI, 6S, plant layout, and facilities upgrade.
•Work with department managers/supervisors on continuous improvement, process control, housekeeping, and 6S changes for the department and direct 6S principles.
•Create new self-sustaining processes that include identifying and tracking continuous improvement initiatives.
•Maintain documentation including photos and scores of weekly, monthly, and quarterly 6S activities plant-wide.
•Implement process management/process improvement initiatives following Lean Six Sigma principles.
•Recommend improvements and projects for long-term 6S strategy including capital budgeting.
•Drive continuous improvement initiatives that will reduce scrap and improve TOC metrics.
•Champion communication between organizations at all levels for projects and CapEx.
•Report-out weekly at the staff meeting on project status, deadlines, and weekly improvements.
•Standardize processes across plant departments, developing Standard 6s Procedures.
•Manage, measure, and track all 6S capital projects including cost, contractors, and vendors.
•Support, score, post, and communicate all 6S scores and department improvements.
•Ensure all safety initiatives are integrated into continuous projects and improvements.
•Lead and manage the plant in 6S initiatives driving a sustainable cultural change.
•Work with production employees on 6S/housekeeping changes for their departments.
•Responsible for submitting continuous improvement/6s budget annually.
•Follow and comply with all Environmental, Health, & Safety policies.
•Lead/drive process changes, improvements, value stream mapping.
•Facilitate cross-functional teams to achieve Kaizen objectives.
•Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
•Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities.
•Strong oral and written communication skills working with all levels of management.
•Project management skills including managing capital and equipment upgrades, Gantt charts, and team building.
•Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Desired Skills:
•Highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
•Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams including outside contractors and vendors.
•Experience in implementing Continuous Improvement methodologies
•Ability to document, plan, measure, and execute 6S programs.
•Proven ability to work hands-on with the team to achieve objectives.
Experience & Education
•Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or related Engineering Technology field. MS or MBA degree is desirable.
•Prefer 5+ years’ experience in a maintenance, plant engineering, continuous improvement, or related position.
•Thorough knowledge of 6S, continuous improvement, and/or lean manufacturing strongly desired.
•Six sigma black and/or green belt certification is a plus.
