Collins has an opening for a Construction Engineer in our Denver office. The primary responsibility of this role is conducting inspections, scheduling and oversight of heavy highway structural projects. SUMMARY The Construction Engineer is an integral part of the Construction Management team and will work under the guidance of the Project Leader (Resident Engineer). Responsibilities of the position are to perform inspection of construction activities to document conformance to plans and specifications, sample/test materials, document contract quantities, manage other inspection staff, and ensure high-quality construction for transportation projects. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Responsible for monitoring contractor conformance to quality, performance, and specifications for assigned construction activities. Proactively interacts with the contractor and communicates decisions to the Resident Engineer. Keeps Resident Engineer informed of work load and any daily activities. Provides technical expertise to Resident Engineer and/or client to ensure the project complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications and design instructions. Reviews, analyzes, and resolves issues. Performs complex engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices. Prepares complete engineering plans or reports. Reviews contractor schedules (Primavera and Gantt chart). Develops, documents, and implements contract modifications. Is active in technical societies. Develops engineering papers and presentations. Assists in coordinating project submittals, cost control, scheduling, reporting and document control activities. Develops and tracks project activities relating to cost, specifications, changes and schedule. Plans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work. Regularly communicates with clients. Is available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours. Performs and monitors daily field inspections and maintains inspection records. Directs and supervises the work of other engineers, technicians, drafters and administrative staff. Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety. Ensures that staff needing specialized training in health and safety procedures and practices receives such training and that safety is discussed as an important aspect of their work. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited four-year university; P.E. License; appropriate continuing education; general engineering knowledge of staging, electrical construction, utility construction, roadway construction, and bridge construction; and 4-8 years of construction management or related experience. Extensive use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and construction management databases/tracking software is required for this role. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Professional Engineer (P.E.) Ability to obtain certifications for material sampling/testing for aggregates, concrete, asphalt, grading, etc. (ACI, NICET or state certifications) Ability to obtain certifications for inspection of roadways, bridges, coatings, etc. (NICET or state certifications) Valid driver’s license Additional Information
