This essential role supports efficient and accurate CNC production by overseeing tool setup, optimizing processes, and collaborating with production teams to ensure high-quality output. The CNC Production Engineer plays a critical role in preparing CNC machines for production by ensuring the correct tools are installed, set up, and calibrated accurately. Their work directly impacts the quality and efficiency of machining operations. Technical Skills Tool Setup & Calibration: Precisely install and set cutting tools, ensuring proper length offsets, diameters, and alignment. Blueprint Reading: Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications to determine tool requirements. G-Code Familiarity: Understand basic CNC programming to verify tool compatibility with machine instructions. Precision Measurement: Use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators to verify tool dimensions and setup accuracy. Machine Knowledge: Understand various CNC machines (mills, lathes, routers, etc.) and corresponding tool requirements. CAM Software Experience: Interpret tool paths and understand how tool selection affects machining strategies. Lean Manufacturing Principles: Apply efficiency practices to standardize tool setups and reduce waste. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills Troubleshooting: Identify tool-related issues such as excessive wear, breakage, or misalignment. Attention to Detail: Make precise adjustments to meet exact production tolerances. Process Optimization: Suggest tool changes or setup improvements to reduce cycle time and enhance part quality. Organizational & Communication Skills Tool Inventory Management: Monitor tool usage, track tool life, and reorder as needed. Documentation: Log tool setups, offsets, and maintenance activities for consistency and repeatability. Team Collaboration: Work closely with machinists, CNC programmers, and quality control to maintain workflow and prevent delays. Preferred Qualifications SolidWorks & AutoCAD: Familiarity with CAD software to support tool layout and design interpretation. Problem Solving: Strong ability to diagnose and resolve setup or tooling issues quickly. Cost Reduction Experience: Experience in recommending tooling or process improvements that reduce waste and improve productivity. Overtime Availability: Willingness to work additional hours when required to support production needs. Hands-On Machine Experience: Practical CNC machine operation experience is a strong plus.
