Interviews will be held on an ongoing weekly basis. Candidates hired for this position will be eligible for an annual base salary of $136,177.60.
Future Salary Increases:
June 2026 – 4.57% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 1.07% Market Adjustment)
June 2027 – 4.07% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 1.07% Market Adjustment)
Additional pay incentives and premiums include:
New Hire Lateral Incentive Pay – up to $5,000 for candidates with experience as a Civil Engineer in a public agency
5% Engineer Premium (applied to time worked)
$1,250 Recruitment Bonus
Additional $1,250 Bonus after successful completion of the probation period

The Civil Engineer Position:
This recruitment aims to establish a six-month eligible list to fill current and future vacancies in the Department of Public Works, Traffic Engineering Section.
The section maintains a safe and efficient road system for all users, designing and maintaining traffic signals, signs, striping, and guard rails, and conducting safety evaluations. Responsibilities include traffic studies, engineering plans, citizen engagement, and inter-agency coordination, all while adhering to standards and policies.
The role is a journey-level class within the Civil Engineer series, with opportunities for advancement to Assistant and Senior Civil Engineer positions.
Work Schedule: The position may involve a hybrid schedule, including telework, remote work, and fieldwork.

Minimum Qualifications:
Registration as a Professional Engineer in California is required. Some positions may require additional certifications such as SWPPP Developer or Practitioner.
