Job Summary: Generally responsible for performing engineering tasks to support the complete design of small and large civil engineering projects using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under general supervision at our office in Decatur, AL. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity offering full benefits, competitive pay, and upward mobility opportunities. Relocation support may be available for those who qualify. Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards
Familiarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team
Produce medium complexity, complete design calculations, and complete assignments within budget and schedule
Produce reports for client and/or regulatory agencies
Provide design assistance on larger and more complex assignments
Checking calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and conformance to good engineering practice
Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies
Assist with drafting of plans and details for the completion of engineering drawings
Perform fieldwork to gather data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support
Develop written construction specifications that define the scope of work, provide specific instruction, and prescribe quality standards
Perform land development and zoning code research for civil-site development projects
Work with discipline lead engineer in identifying scope changes in projects
Review and check submittal drawings and documentation
Ability to lead small size teams in coordinating civil efforts and keeping the team focused on scope, schedule and budget
Assist with estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of civil/structural work
Ideal Background
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required. Registration: Professional licensure is required. Engineer in Training (EIT) registration may be considered if Professional licensure can be obtained in the first six (6) months of employment. Experience: This position requires up to 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in civil-site engineering in the industrial setting.Previous experience in commercial, government, or infrastructure setting may be considered for this position.Experience in state and local land development permitting is required. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, maintaining focus and re-prioritizing as necessary to meet multiple commitments
Knowledge and application of associated standards (ASCE, AASHTO, AREMA, NRCS, NFPA, etc.)
Ability to read and understand local and state land development codes are essential
Working knowledge of civil stormwater analysis software (SSA, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and/or ICPR) including operating and interpreting results
Ability to actively listen and ascertain the needs of Teammates and Clients
Ability to work with a team to complete small and large projects
Able to assist with the development of presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services
Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil3D is required
Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro is a plus
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed, and able to provide interoffice execution leadership and support
Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
