Summary
The Chief Engineer plays a critical leadership role in the overall success of hotel operations by managing the maintenance of all physical building systems, life safety programs, and energy management initiatives. This position is responsible for ensuring that the hotel remains fully operational, safe, and welcoming for both guests and associates, with minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
You will lead the engineering team in daily operations, vendor coordination, capital project planning, and compliance with brand standards, local codes, and regulatory guidelines. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical knowledge in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance, along with proven leadership and organizational skills.
This role requires a proactive mindset to anticipate maintenance needs, a hands-on approach to problem-solving, and the ability to motivate and train a diverse team. The Chief Engineer partners closely with hotel leadership to develop and execute property improvement plans and sustainability strategies while maintaining cost controls and optimizing long-term asset value
Core Responsibilities Include:
Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts, as required to meet the needs of the Company's business operations.
Delegate daily work assignments and review priorities and special projects.
Schedule and perform work in accordance with preventive maintenance program in rooms, coordinating with the Rooms Division Department.
Ensures final inspection of all engineering related work and execution of all work orders.
Performs engineering staff functions whenever necessary.
Ensures all safety equipment is in compliance and working order with federal quarterly/annual inspections to city, state and codes. Maintain knowledge of hotel safety procedures and ensure application of such.
Handle chemicals for designated uses/surfaces, according to hotel requirements.
Perform emergency equipment and machinery repair as needed.
Maintain the proper use, cleaning, maintenance, and storage of all tools.
Exercise safety precautions when working on equipment (use of safety signs, etc.).
Maintains the engineering department's annual budget.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities that includes interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:
Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of engineering or facilities management experience, preferably in a hotel or commercial building environment.
Proven leadership experience
Education & Certifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
Certification in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or a related field strongly preferred.
EPA Universal Certification, CPO (Certified Pool Operator), and OSHA training are a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and energy management systems.
Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Proficient in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office.
Skilled in managing capital projects, contractors, and vendor relationships.
Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
