Overview
This key position leads a team of engineers and designers in the development of the electrical elements of essential product families for the company. The Chief Electrical Engineer is responsible for all facets of the design process for multiple product lines: Design ideation, proof of concept, verification of design to product requirements, validation of the product requirements to the customers’ requirements, production launch and sustaining production.
Responsibilities
Supervise designers and engineers that support your product categories.
Create electrical/human interfaces for existing product changes and new product development.
Develop Bruno’s electrical product specifications for suppliers of electrical parts; PCBAs, chargers, batteries, harnesses, control components, etc.
Support manufacturing engineering with controls automation development and resource management.
Develop and troubleshoot in-house product fixtures requiring electronic controls.
Support the change management system with focus on electrical engineering change notices.
Research product market, evaluate competition to company products and customers’ needs to create designs of marketable products to increase sales.
Conceptualize Designs for electro-mechanical products that translate the product market requirements into technically achievable results.
Support the product development team to meet schedule, product requirements and budget.
Work with suppliers to optimize technical aspects of the purchased content.
Work with internal cross-functional team to launch product into production.
Ensure third party NRTL agencies compliance to relevant codes and safety standards.
Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with all customers and staff on product development activities.
Trouble shoot designs, installations and production issues in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Electro-mechanical Engineering
5-10 years’ experience in a product development and manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience supervising a team of technical staff.
Experience in fractional motors, embedded controls, drives, 12- and 24-Volt DC systems, and motion safety systems is preferred.
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, PPAP part qualification, DFMEA, knowledge desired.
Experience designing for commercial products, appliances, or medical markets is highly desired.
Experience with the design of motion systems using DC gear-motors, electric actuators and with Stairlift or Elevator code is a plus.
Registered Professional Engineer Certification is highly valued.
Skills and Abilities:
Requires job related software skills and Microsoft Office proficiency.
Knowledge of the application of Electrical and electro-mechanical design components into a system for load lifting applications.
Strong problem solving methodology to drive performance, safety and cost value into product designs.
Read, analyze, and interpret reports and legal documents.
Write articles at publication level that conform to prescribed style and format. Create schematics and control schemes.
Effectively present information to employees, management, customers, regulatory agencies and members of the business community.
Additional skills desired: Knowledge of Industrial PLC and Micro Controllers, sensors such as: accelerometers, Inclinometers, proximity sensors, switches, RF and IR Sensors, data acquisition systems and basic electrical lab prototyping skills such as Crimping and Soldering.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Regular office environment, approximately 60%.
Modern production facility/engineering lab with heat and air conditioning approximately 30%
Occasional travel for field investigation or testing in outside environment approximately less than 10%
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or touch; and talk and hear.
The employee is regularly required to stand and move around, occasionally squatting or laying on the ground.
