We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automotive Lighting Test/Validation Engineer to join our team in Wixom, Michigan.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive plastics, with specialized expertise in automotive lighting products or test/validation engineering.
This role requires hands-on involvement in designing, developing, and executing test plans, as well as managing external testing, to ensure the quality, performance, and reliability of automotive lighting systems.
The candidate must be a collaborative team player, an independent contributor, and willing to engage at all levels, from running tests to interfacing with customers.
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and setups to validate automotive lighting systems or related plastic components.
Develop strategy for and manage sourcing and execution of testing at outside labs.
Manage Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) processes to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to support product development and validation.
Analyze test results, identify issues, and propose corrective actions to improve product performance and reliability.
Communicate effectively with internal teams and external customers to provide updates, resolve issues, and ensure project alignment.
Maintain and operate lab equipment, ensuring accurate and repeatable test results.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in testing methodologies and processes.
Requirements:
Minimum of 7 years of experience in automotive plastics.
At least 5 years of experience in a lab or manufacturing setting.
Deep expertise in either: Automotive lighting products, or Test/validation engineering of automotive plastics products.
Electrical Engineering Skills: Proficiency in electrical design and hands-on implementation, including circuit design and troubleshooting.
Test Lab/Validation Experience: Proven ability to build test setups, manage DVP&R, and conduct validation testing.
3D CAD Capability: Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent) for designing and analyzing components.
3D Printing Expertise: Deep experience implementing 3D printing technologies in industrial or manufacturing settings.
Strong team player with excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Proven ability to work independently and deliver high-quality results as an individual contributor.
Flexibility and willingness to do what it takes to ensure the company succeeds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with automotive lighting standards (e.g., SAE, ECE, FMVSS).
Familiarity with failure mode analysis and root cause investigation.
Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes related to plastics and lighting components.
Experience directing the work of junior employees without being in a supervisory role.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), or a related field.
