Job Summary
To support production and troubleshoot activities on fully automated assembly lines for manufacturing, we’re looking to add an Automation Engineer located in Austin, TX (onsite). What a typical day looks like: Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting automation equipment in our Austin manufacturing site. Design and create automated solutions using common components like PLCs, sensors, smart torque-drivers, conveyors, IIoT devices, 6-axis robots, stack lights, etc. Program and deploy vision systems with enclosures to inspect product for defects. Create electrical circuits for new equipment or to integrate new components on existing systems. Support and troubleshoot automation cells and equipment when errors occur. Create troubleshooting, user guide and maintenance documentation for deployed equipment. Work with vendors and maintenance team to ensure all automation equipment has appropriate spare parts, and a preventive maintenance plan. Become the SME for automation solutions to identify new opportunities and deploy in new areas. Attend meetings with operations to help with technical knowledge on existing and potential solutions. Deploying systems at customer facilities and performing service work. Travel within the US up to 10%. The experience we’re looking to add to our team Typically requires 4+ years of relevant work experience Requires an Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechatronics Experience programing PLCs using structured text and/or ladder logic. Strong background designing electrical circuits and creating schematics using CAD software. Experience researching and evaluating components for qualification. Lean Six Sigma/DRM Green Belt highly preferred Experience designing and building automation equipment for manufacturing. Regulated industry documentation skills Ability to multitask and work under pressure situations. Experience programming vision based systems (Cognex,Keyence) Understanding of imaging principals, optics, and machine vision lighting. Experience using one of these industrial protocols (Modbus TCP, PROFINET, SLMP, EtherNet/IP) Strong communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external teams verbally and in writing. Ability to learn new technologies.
