Description We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a full-time Staff Engineer working as a Civil designer in our Water Resources’ Flood and Drainage group. The position entails performing civil technical analyses, preparing designs, drafting construction plans, and preparing construction specifications as well as project scheduling, site inspections, construction cost estimating and construction assistance. This is a staffed, hourly, non-exempt position.
What you will be doing
Perform field inspections, condition assessments, flow/ stream gage installation, and field data collection.
Develop and use hydrologic/hydraulic simulation computer models to analyze rainfall/runoff transformations as well as closed conduit, open channel, pump station, reservoir, and floodplain flows.
Use GIS software to perform analytical tasks and database updates to support hydrologic and hydraulic studies.
Develop watershed and facility maps, technical reports, and presentations.
Prepare hydrologic studies and design hydraulic structures.
Tabulate and summarize statistical data and assist with the preparation of reports.
Support the planning and design of public works improvements and/or private land development improvements by assisting with plan preparation, profiles and cross-sections, and performing various other calculations and drawings.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification, with active progress toward obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
2–5 years of experience performing technical analyses on water resource engineering projects.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; working knowledge of GIS software (ArcMap 10.4 or newer), AutoCAD, and other relevant engineering applications. Familiarity with programming languages is a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information.
Experience conducting intermediate-level open channel and floodplain hydraulic modeling using one-dimensional tools (e.g., ICM, HEC-RAS, SWMM) and two-dimensional tools (e.g., ICM, TUFLOW, DHI, HEC-RAS).
Proficient in rainfall-runoff modeling using HEC-HMS or comparable software to analyze flood hydrograph timing and volume.
Ability to analyze rainfall and streamflow gauge data for depth-duration-frequency (DDF) assessments.
Practical knowledge and experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and ArcMap (version 10.4 or later), and other engineering software as needed.
Solid understanding of general civil engineering principles related to floodplain management, analysis, and design.
Hands-on experience with GIS applications and a strong grasp of its uses in engineering projects.
Active participation in professional organizations related to civil or water resources engineering.

Offers will be based on several factors, including experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, training, and location. Base pay is just one part of the comprehensive compensation package offered by Wood Rodgers.
