YOU MUST APPLY ONLINE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION THE RECONSIDERATION PERIOD FOR THIS RECRUITMENT IS THREE (3) BUSINESS DAYS The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) District 1 (Wicomico County), Construction Section is recruiting for an Area Engineer (Transportation Engineering Manager II ) position. This position is open to anyone who meet the  minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment.  The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy only.You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification. Nature of work: This position will function as an Area Engineer for District 1 - Construction Section. The duties will include managing and coordinating work assignments of the unit, setting standards, and providing quality assurance reviews and coordinating work with other divisions. This position will do the following: manage and coordinate the overall work assignments for District 1’s Construction inspection staff: resolve personnel conflicts; assist the Assistant District Engineer-Construction in the management of the district’s capital project delivery system; participate in the review of plans, specifications, and estimates; provide resolution of construction issues and claims; measurement of customer satisfaction with the final products; responding to citizen inquiries and complaints; Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule analysis and utility relocation for construction projects; coordinate utility permits related to capital construction projects; the develop policies and procedures related to District 1 inspection staff; manage numerous individual construction contracts; and advises and supports the various project engineers assigned to the district.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education : Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience : Eight (8) years of experience in professional engineering, including one (1) year of supervisory or consultant management experience.
Selective Qualification: Four (4) years of experience in highway/roadway and bridge construction.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or abilities).
Notes :
1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non- supervisory experience.
3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements Licenses & Certifications
Candidate must possess a driver’s license valid in the state of Maryland.
