Salary: A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline.
Primary Function: AIS supports research at the Milford Laboratory, a world leader in aquaculture science. A part of this work is dedicated towards leading the development of technical guidelines for open ocean aquaculture systems in the United States to provide engineering support for the advancement of offshore aquaculture engineering in the U.S. The two primary focus areas are developing offshore aquaculture engineering guidance documents with the intended end users being our regulatory partners involved in the permitting process and associated industry members; and conducting research related to entanglement risk associated with offshore aquaculture gear and marine mammals that are protected under the Endangered Species Act. This role will focus on coordination between the engineering team and other stakeholders, while also performing technical writing, engineering analysis, and other education and outreach duties.
Duties: Provide coordination among engineering, aquaculture and other staff both inside and outside of NOAA to support engineering tasks related to the development of Aquaculture Opportunity Areas Conduct research on existing gear and developing new gear/strategies that could reduce entanglement risk with marine mammals that are protected under the Endangered Species Act. Develop offshore aquaculture engineering guidance documentation Develop informational products, in support of regulatory and industry needs Present research findings and products at scientific conferences and working groups
Compensation: Candidates will be paid an hourly rate to be negotiated, and total compensation will vary depending on candidates depth of experience. This is a fulltime position.AIS benefits package includes health and dental insurance, vacation, sick and holiday benefits.
Minimum Qualifications: Masters or Bachelors + 35 years exp in ocean engineering or related fields. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to work as part of a research team. Proficient in using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, Google suite and engineering software.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with offshore aquaculture. 3-5 publications in peer reviewed journals
Travel: Travel is anticipated for site visits and conference opportunities
