Overview
First Call Direct Hire is seeking a Manufacturing Applications Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer to support our client in Franklin, Indiana. This mechanically focused role provides hands-on engineering support for product application, selection, and performance in a manufacturing environment.
You’ll work closely with sales, quality, and production teams to develop technical solutions that meet customer needs and improve production efficiency.
Note: This is not a software development role. We are specifically seeking candidates with a background in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering combined with hands-on manufacturing experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for linear and mechatronic system design and specification
- Troubleshoot customer application issues and resolve technical challenges
- Develop cost estimates and assist with product feature negotiations and pricing
- Create proposal drawings and 3D models using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Siemens NX, CATIA)
- Maintain production-ready documentation and support manufacturing processes
- Lead application-based projects from concept through production launch
- Deliver technical training and contribute to marketing materials such as brochures and trade show content
- Travel with sales teams to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and distributor customers as needed
- Support manufacturing and quality teams with root cause analysis and technical issue resolution
- Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment of customer requirements with production capabilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 2–6 years of experience in a mechanically focused engineering role, preferably in manufacturing
- Proficient with 2D and 3D CAD software, including Siemens NX, SolidWorks, and CATIA
- Familiarity with actuators, linear motion systems, bearings, ball screws, or similar components
- Strong mechanical problem-solving skills with a customer-first mindset
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with OEM clients and internal teams
- Preferred: Programming or foreign language skills
