Based on the requirements of our government contracts, you must be a U.S. Citizen and have a secret security clearance. This position is on-site, located in Huntsville, AL.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:
Collaborate with the lead engineer to develop and analyze machine learning models for simulation, planning, and optimization.
Investigate model behavior, identify failure modes, and propose theoretically grounded improvements.
Participate in dataset creation and feature engineering for structured and unstructured inputs.
Write clean, well-documented code in Python to support training pipelines, model evaluation and analysis tools.
Read and interpret academic papers and formal specifications, reproducing results when necessary.
Think critically about data dependencies, modeling assumptions, and the design of learning systems.
Contribute to the development of research tools that push the boundaries of applied AI in defense contexts.
Essential job skills include:
Strong grasp of logic, proof techniques, and mathematical abstraction. Exposure to type theory, lambda calculus, or other foundational topics is a plus (not for daily use, but as a sign of analytical depth).
Basic proficiency in Python and interest in machine learning and data analysis workflows.
Willingness to learn ML frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow and explore advanced modeling strategies.
Ability to think clearly about system structure, assumptions, and dependencies in both data and code.
Comfortable with ambiguity, long-form problem solving, and reading technical material independently.
Excellent communication skills - able to express complex ideas precisely in writing and speech.
Desired skills:
Prior work with structured data or simulations in scientific computing, physics engines, or symbolic systems.
Interest in explainable AI, interpretable modeling, or low-level model debugging.
Demonstrated ability to self-teach advanced topics and synthesize ideas from diverse disciplines.
Passion for rigorous thinking and working on complex real-world problems.
General Requirements:
5-15 years of related experience
An active secret security clearance and the ability to maintain an active secret security clearance
US Citizenship required
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mathematics. Other degrees suchs as Computer Science, Physics, and Philosophy (logic-focused) should exhibit intense analytic depth not found in the standard degree plan.
